You’re at the mall, out to eat, walking through your workplace, or maybe you’re just sitting at home. Just think about it. At almost any given moment, an individual can be seen looking at their phone. So, as a business, why not target the place that consumers are already constantly feeding into: social media. No longer can we as businesses ignore the call for a social media presence and continue to invest time and money into outdated techniques. Why? Because according to Erik Qualman, author of Socialnomics, “the ROI of social media is your business will still exist in five years.”

Below, we will consider reasons why a social media presence is needed now more than ever. Oh, and we have the stats to back it up.

“Everyone is doing it”

Just from last year alone, the number of internet users has increased by 10% to a total of 50% of the world’s population being on the internet. Of that number, 74% of internet users are active on social media.

Digital Marketing is Measurable.

In the digital age, everything is quantifiable and measurable. With analytics regarding every post, click, share, and like, a social media manager can determine what is effective and what techniques simply aren’t working. Therefore, in a world of technology, having a digital footprint can be extremely beneficial.

Social Media is a consumer’s “go-to”

According to one study by Trustpilot, 31% of consumers trust brands more if they have a social media presence. And 20% of consumers check businesses’ social media profiles before deciding to purchase those companies’ products.

Top social media sites have reach

Facebook continues to be the most widely used social media platform, with 79% of American internet users. Thus, 68% of U.S. adults are using Facebook. Along with Facebook, Snapchat continues to remain a popular social media site. On any given day, Snapchat reaches 41% of 18 to 34-year-olds in the US.  YouTube also remains prominent on the internet and manages to reach more 18 to 49-year-olds than any cable network in the U.S.
